H&P Noodle House Review | Classic Vietnamese & Thai Comfort Food in Burnaby Heights

Let's eat some Vietnamese and Thai food! If you’re looking for a reliable, no-frills Vietnamese spot in the Burnaby Heights area, H&P Noodle House is one of those places that has quietly built a loyal following.

We went on a Saturday night and it was full; we waited about 15 minutes for a table for the 6 of us (4 adults and 2 babies). The menu is surprisingly broad, covering both Vietnamese and Thai options with the basics. That variety works in its favour if you’re dining in a group, want to avoid flavour fatigue, or just want options beyond pho. Popular picks tend to include grilled meat on vermicelli, popular noodle soups like bun rieu, and curry-based dishes.

We ordered four dishes to share between the four of us adults:

  • Bun Rieu (tomato crab soup)
  • Grilled beef and chicken on vermicelli, served with a spring roll
  • Bun Bo Hue (spicy pork hock soup)
  • Red seafood curry with specials
Bun Rieu: served with lettuce, onions, and the staple pho toppings. This was a good dish and there was plenty of crab meat present. All of the dishes were served with great portions for the price. I do think that the one at Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen is better.

Mixed grill on vermicelli with a spring roll: a great value dish because of the tender, grilled meats and spring roll - our family liked this a lot. With the peanuts, it was a dish that had multiple textures and tasted good when mixed together.

Bun Bo Hue: our family likes spicy food so we pick this over the staple pho. This had plenty of pork balls, meat balls, and noodles. The portion size was good and could easily be a hearty dinner for one. We felt that the broth could have had a bit more kick.

Red curry with mixed seafood on rice: Wow! All I can say is that this was a fantastic dish and the family consensus favourite. Flavourful, aromatic, and savoury - the sauce was the best part mixed with the rice. Definitely will get this again.

H&P’s biggest strength is consistency and it shows in the food. Across the dishes served, the food is flavourful and satisfying. The broth gets solid praise—rich, comforting, and exactly what you’d expect from a neighbourhood pho spot. Portions are also on the generous side, which adds to the overall value proposition. The total came to almost $90 including tax and tip.

Service is another consistent positive. Staff are typically accommodating, attentive, and efficient, and the restaurant itself is clean and comfortable—nothing fancy, but perfectly suitable for a casual meal. Occasionally we had to wave a server down but the two seemed to handle the restaurant quite efficiently.

Overall, H&P Noodle House sits comfortably in that “solid and dependable” tier. It may not be the absolute best pho or have the best vietnamese dishes in Metro Vancouver, but it delivers where it counts: good flavour, good portions, and good execution.

Hits:

  • Fast, efficient service
  • The curry was fantastic, and the dishes were solid and tasty
  • Menu is expansive, multiple options to choose from
  • Liked the Thai iced tea that they gave us

Misses:

  • Need to take stairs up to the restaurant (no elevator for our stroller)
  • Dishes were good, not A+ outstanding (except the curry)

Rating: 4.5/5 - a great option for dinner or late-night eats. We enjoyed the food and had a great time. Will be back if we're in the area! It ticks off all the boxes for a classic neighbourhood spot.
