Church's Chicken Spring Deal | Best Fried Chicken Deal in Vancouver?

Let's eat some fried chicken! This might be the best cheap fried chicken deal in Vancouver right now. Church's Chicken is one of the original players in the Vancouver fried chicken market (the other being KFC). Yes there are newer establishments like Juke and Downlow, but for basic, classic fried chicken, Church's has delivered a winning product. Is their new chicken deal worth it? Let's find out.

We ordered their 6 piece combo (mix, half spicy half regular) with fries and gravy on the side. I picked up my order in person and didn't have to wait that long. Their spring deal brings great value to consumers and for fast food chicken, it's hard to compete at that price. Hot, fresh, and crispy - what more else could you want from fried chicken?

I'm more of a purist when it comes to fried chicken and don't really crave other flavours like Nashville hot or glazed chicken like you see in Asian countries - you get all these restaurants trying to make crazy combos, or make a chicken sandwich without chicken as the buns, but keeping it simple with clean, execution is an underrated strategy.

Sometimes, you're just craving Church's chicken and when you do, it's delicious. I like the batter especially (chicken skin) from Church's Chicken as I feel that other fast food competitors like KFC or Mary Browns' serve fried chicken that isn't as crunchy. When you order the food, you can see Church's chicken being fresh, battered, and fried to order, whereas KFC chicken tends to be very inconsistent and lacking in both portion size and crispiness. I've ordered chicken from KFC in the past and the skin at times was gummy or very soft.

Their fries were also tasty. They used to have the crinkle cut fries but these straight fries paired with the gravy are a perfect complement to the fried chicken. Their gravy is fantastic and I often pour it with rice when I eat my chicken.

We also added their wrap to our meal and it was a good late night snack. The spiciness was in the chicken; it was very good but the sauce could have been a bit more flavourful. It tasted like a cross between a ranch or mayo type sauce but wasn't impactful. Personally, I am so-so with their wraps and sandwiches as I prefer other competitors. The chicken is clearly the star.

Hits:

  • Service was quick and efficient (food served promptly and hot)
  • Tasted great! Crispy, salty, everything you want in a traditional fried chicken
  • For standard fried chicken, very consistent (our location near Fraser St. location especially), and widely accessible via mobile order as well

Misses:

  • Without coupons can be very pricey, prices have increased over the past few years
  • Their wraps and sandwiches are pretty average at best, you can skip those
  • Not as innovative; don't expect flavours like Korean BBQ or Nashville hot chicken

Rating: 4.5/5 - this is a classic, crispy fried chicken at its finest. We will definitely return. They also have a $1 chicken wing special which is very good as well. What's next in our food adventures?
